A huge character could be on her way to checking out of General Hospital.

According to reports, Rebecca Herbst, who portrays Elizabeth Webber on the show, has reportedly hit a major snag in her contract talks, and could be on her way out of the show as a result.

Daytime Confidential reports that negotiations have reached a snag between the show and Herbst and have hit an impasse, with no real solution or potential re-signing set to be decided upon soon. If Herbst chooses not to renew, NBC's Days of Our Lives, which was officially renewed for a new season, is reportedly ready to snatch her away and introduce her as a new character in Salem.

Herbst has portrayed the role of Elizabeth since 1997, and has been involved in several huge storylines, including a love story with Lucky Spencer, and the recent huge twists concerning Jason Morgan's (Billy Miller) return, as well as her son, Jake (James Nigborn), both of whom were believed to be dead, and made returns with new actors in the roles in 2015.

If Herbst leaves the show, it would be the second time she departed. She was briefly let go in a shocking decision in 2011, though outrage from her co-stars and fans quickly led to her being resigned by 2012.

The most recent storyline involving Herbst's character has villainized her a bit on the show, since she kept the truth about Jason's identity a secret for months, however, there has been some softening towards her again after her character recently dealt with Jake being hit by a car for a second time, and her house blowing up in a fire.

General Hospital airs Monday-Friday at 3 p.m. on ABC.
