While there are still three episodes remaining of AMC's hit zombie show The Walking Dead, it's never to early for fans to start pondering what creative direction will be headed in for season 4.

Since original showrunner Frank Darabont left midway through the series' second season, Glen Mazzara has since taken the reigns with fans of the program clearly being drawn to his action-packed and conflict-driven vision.

Unfortunately, they'll be losing Mazzara next season as well, which will lead to current writer Scott Gimple taking over as the third showrunner.

Although no real hints have been dropped on what will unfold in the future of the zombie apocalypse, Zap2it reported that the writers have indeed begun the process of breaking down the stories.

While many fans aren't familiar with Gimple's style of overseeing a production, he has been very effective in writing episodes. His credits on The Walking Dead include Pretty Much Dead Already, Hounded and last week's Clear.

Executive producer of the show Robert Kirkman recently spoke at the Paley Fest event, and gave both his blessing and faith to Gimple at the helm.

"I think having Scott Gimple come up and become an executive producer and showrunner is gonna provide a very tremendous voice for the show," Kirkman said. "I think it's gonna give us a clear path moving forward. He's been an integral part of the writers' room since the beginning of Season 2. I think we've got some really exciting times ahead of us under his leadership."

"Scott has a really amazing vision for where the show goes," He has it sort of fully mapped out. He's collaborative, he's an amazing writer and amazing producer. We really couldn't be luckier to have him as our new showrunner," adds fellow executive producer David Alpert. "

The Walking Dead is set to air next on Sunday, March 11 at 9 p.m. EST with an all new episode titled, Arrow on the Doorpost. Photos of the episode have now been released.
