It's a great time to be a comic fan. Not only are we getting big-screen treats like Deadpool, Captain America: Civil War, and Batman Vs. Superman, our favorite series are getting the television treatment. Nearly every major network is trying to capitalize on the outpouring of comic love with a new show (or two); from gritty horror to superhero mayhem, there's something for everyone. Here are the new comic book TV shows of 2016 that you're going to add to your must-watch list.

Preacher (AMC)

AMC has pretty much set the standard for successful comic book shows with the insanely popular (and insanely stressful) The Walking Dead. And now they're upping the ante, taking on one of the most beloved and twisted comic series in recent history: Preacher is a gritty and intense tale of a man suffering a crisis of faith who sets out to find God--literally. His journey takes him and his companions on a demented and delightfully depraved adventure. We can only hope the series maintains the same balance of pitch-black humor and epic storytelling.

Luke Cage (Netflix)

After the overwhelming popularity and critical acclaim that followed Jessica Jones and Daredevil, Netflix is looking to expand the Marvel universe for their streaming fans. Mike Colter already made an appearance as the hero in Jessica Jones, but he takes on evil himself in this highly anticipated superhero story. And that's not the only new superhero show coming from Netflix; Iron Fist is in the works, and due out by the end of 2016, along with the Defenders. And rumor has it that there could be a Punisher spin-off (but more on that later).

Watchmen (HBO)

It's one of the most influential and brilliant graphic novels ever (and led to one of the most divisive comic book movies in recent memory). But director Zack Snyder isn't ready to leave behind the gritty and dark work of masked vigilantes from the film; after Batman Vs. Superman drops, he'll be focusing his efforts on this limited series for HBO. Whether comic creator Alan Moore will curse the series (as he did the movie, going so far as to hint that he literally placed a curse on the production) remains to be seen.

Daredevil (Netflix)

OK, so this admittedly isn't a new show, but season two of this superhero sensation is more than worth mentioning. Besides the continuing adventures of Matt Murdock, attorney by day and vigilante by night, we get two of the most beloved and fascinating characters in the Marvel pantheon: Elektra and The Punisher (played by The Walking Dead alum Jon Bernthal). So brace yourself: this season of Daredevil is going to be a serious game-changer.

Marvel's Most Wanted (ABC)

With Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. a major hit and Agent Carter earning rave reviews, it's no surprise that Marvel is looking to branch out on ABC. This S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off features two agents going solo to take on the really tough cases (as if there are any others in the Marvel world). The series promises an all-star cast, plenty of popular supporting characters, and yet another way for Marvel fans to embrace their ever-growing cinematic (and television) universe.
