We applaud Starz decision to announce the highly anticipated casting on a Wednesday, and we thank Odin that the leader of the Old Gods has finally arrived in the form of Ian McShane. As Shadow's (Ricky Whittle) employer and travel companion, McShane's Mr. Wednesday is the driving force behind Neil Gaiman's battle between the old world and the new.
"When you write a beloved character (beloved with, or despite, or because of all his faults) like Mr. Wednesday, you get to watch the Internet trying to cast the role," Gaiman said. "I've seen a hundred names suggested, but few make me grin like Ian McShane does."

Described as "a crafty and endlessly charismatic con man, full of perverse wisdom, curious magic, and grand plans," Mr. Wednesday can be a slippery fellow. We're dying to find out what executive producers Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies) and Michael Green (The River, Heroes) have planned for Gaiman's beautifully realized character.
