The latest episode of Season 11 of Criminal Minds has thrown the fan universe in an absolute tizzy.

Derek Morgan, one of the central and most beloved characters on the show, left the series. As fans are still reeling from the very fresh and shocking news, maybe some words from Shemar Moore, who plays Derek on the show, might help.

Moore spoke to TVLine about his decision to quit and his experience of working on Criminal Minds.

"I'm proud of Joe Mantegna, Thomas Gibson, Matthew [Gray Gubler], Kirsten [Vangsness]... because not only did we bust our ass and defy the odds and create a hit show together, everything we did was together," he said.

He went on to explain how great it was to watch all his fellow cast member evolve and grow through his time spent on the show.

"Matthew started directing, and that inspired Joe. And that inspired Thomas. And then Kirsten got inspired [to write], and I supported her. And AJ [Cook] is a mother of two and took time out for her life and came back," he said. "It was nice to see everybody growing."

Finally, Moore spoke of his decision to leave the show, revealing that although he didn't get to write and direct like the other cast members, his core strength has always been acting and he felt it was time to move on for his growth as an actor.

"I didn't direct, I didn't write, but I grew, and I'm leaving because I want to continue to grow as an actor," Moore said. "I'm leaving to see what else I'm capable of."

The latest episode, 'A Beautiful Disaster' aired on March 23 on CBS.
