As The Good Wife comes to a close the main cast members of the series have been expressing their sadness at the end of the line.

Chris Noth, who plays Peter Florrick on the CBS legal drama spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about some tense moments coming up for his character, and the fate of Peter and Alicia's (Julianna Margulies) relationship.

Initially, the actor revealed that he hadn't expect to last as long as he did on the series.

"I just thought, 'It's really about her journey as a single woman becoming independent and running a law firm,' but they've managed to remain together," he said. "It's been quite an intrepid relationship so I've gladly stayed for as long as it lasted. It's provided me with a really interesting seven years."

Noth also summarised their relationship over the years as being resilient yet something of a comment on marriage.

"There's an acceptance that it could end at any moment and that they've gone as far as they can go, at least they think that," he said. "The road has been long and hard on them and I think there's an acceptance that they might have outgrown the marriage, but we'll see."

Finally, the actor revealed that how the current seasn's story arch of grand jury proceedings set to take place against Peter affect his character and his relationship with Alicia.

"It brings up very primal feelings, let's just put it that way," Noth said. "It appears that they come to the end of the line with their relationship in that fight. You feel like there's nowhere else for them to go but I think they've been there before. They always teeter on the edge."

Going back to prison is also a very scary prospect for Peter.

"It was a horrific experience for him and he was exonerated basically but that experience is something he doesn't want to repeat," Noth said. "He's going to use every skill he has to fight this. It's just another crisis but I think he lives in crisis."

The next episode, entitled 'Unmanned,' is set to air on March 27.
