After another exciting installment of CW's Vampire Diaries, the popular series will return with an all-new episode next Thursday, titled American Gothic.

The upcoming episode will feature an unenthused Caroline (Candice Accola) being elected to assist Klaus (Joseph Morgan). However, after the OV's confrontation with Silas, he apparently needs her in the worst way, according to Wet Paint.

Meanwhile, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) are both concerned about Elena, but she still doesn't want her emotions to be turned back on.

Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) will make the trek to Pennsylvania where they'll meet up with Katherine and Elijah (Daniel Gillies), who is returning to the show.

"Elijah's gonna shock and possibly even horrify a few. In fact, I'll say he's gonna horrify many. But frankly, I don't care. I think what he's doing is wonderful," Gillies told Entertainment Weekly.

Vampire Diaries' writer Julie Plec also spoke to the site, and kept things quite discreet in the process, as she would only say that Elijah's main goal was to keep his family intact.

In other news on the CW show, Claire Holt (Rebekah) has been confirmed to join the cast of its future spinoff, The Originals.

While the Rebekah character's attachment to the Vampire Diaries' prequel comes as no surprise, her attachment to the respective project had taken longer than anticipated.

Holt is the latest name to join the cast along with Gillies (Elijah), Morgan (Klaus), and Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley).

According to Carter Matt, her continuous scramble for the vampire cure will lead to a confrontation with her and Katherine (Nina Dobrev).

Holt had spoken to Zap2It about the nasty battle that's brewing between the two characters.

"They're so similar in a way, but so different in a way. I think Rebekah likes having the power. She likes controlling situations. I think she's liked to play that sort of vixen role in Mystic Falls, and Katherine has been the ultimate vixen, so I don't think they're going to be the best of friends, that's for sure."

Vampire Diaries will make its return on Thursday, March 28 at 8 p.m. EDT.
