Can fans expect one of American Idol's most iconic judges to return to the series for its final hoorah?

On Monday, Entertainment Weekly shared an interview with pop star Paula Abdul who was one of the first judges on the series along with Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson. It's been years since she's been on the panel, but is she considering making a cameo appearance in the final episode?

Based on what she told the publication, it seems like it could happen, and Cowell and Jackson might be right there with her.

"I know they're trying to figure out what the three of us will do," Abdul said. "I'm sure we'll do something that will be trouble-making."

The former judge then explained her reason for leaving the series after eight years; it wasn't an easy decision to make, but she knew it was in her best favor to do so.

"It was time for me to leave," she said. "I'd never had the same job for eight years. I felt that there were changes happening, and it didn't feel like the same show. I needed to go back and do things I wanted to do, and being in that contract with the show didn't allow me to do many things. It was a bold decision to make, but I will always have tremendous gratitude because it was a tremendous experience for me."

The final episode of American Idol airs on Thursday, April 7 at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
