The epic fantasy television show, based on George R. R. Martin's series of novels, is set in the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos at the end of a decade-long summer. With countless characters and an interweaving set of storylines, the show obtained an exceptionally broad and active fan base and received critical acclaim from critics and readers of the original source material alike.
The first season followed members of the many noble houses as they converge on civil war for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms. The second season witnessed the rising threat of impending winter as well as the ominous appearance of mythical creatures of the great white north.
Though the show's use of nudity has been called excessive at times by pundits but the series has earned numerous awards and nominations since its inception two years ago. The series' morally bereft characters allows its creators to explore issues of social hierarchy, religion, civil war, sexuality, crime and punishment.
The hour-long premiere will not be capable of catching up viewers on all of the cliffhangers left in the wake of season two's finale but, fans of the book know all to well that the "Wildlings" who dwell north of the wall and their king, Mance Rayder, will play a major role in the plot of the much anticipated third season.
