Is there a chance that American Idol might not be gone forever?

On Thursday night, the final episode aired when Trent Harmon was named the last winner of the singing competition. While this was a proud moment, something else happened that caused a bit of speculation.

It turns out that host Ryan Seacrest not only sent his gratitude to all the viewers, but he added that the show may come back.

"And one more time- this is so tough- we say to you from Hollywood, goodnight America...for now," he said.

Seacrest then took to his Twitter page on Friday to add more on how he didn't want the show to end.

While this doesn't guarantee anything, the creator of the show Simon Fuller did tell Billboard that the series will likely return in some way.

"There will no doubt be another format or refinement or elevation of the format," Fuller said. "Now I can actually revamp it and come up with a new version and we can look back on 15 seasons and think of some legitimate ways to allow people to enjoy them again, maybe adding another dimension to it."

It appears that whatever comes next, it'll likely have more visual effects that audiences can enjoy.

"I've spent a whole lot of time thinking about this," Fuller said. "I've been waiting for the technology to be good enough to make it happen. We have the digital rights for Elvis Presley and we're building a virtual reality show around him."

Harmon is the winner of Season 15 where he joins the other group of singers who won the title:

Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, David Cook, Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze, Scotty McCreery, Phillip Phillips, Candice Glover, Caleb Johnson and Nick Fradiani.
