It's been a while coming but it won't make it any easier on his loved ones as Eric (Greg Vaughan) leaves Salem to serve a five-year sentence for Daniel's death on Days of Our Lives.

Eric has been sentenced and is set to begin serving his time for the New Year's Eve drunk driving accident he caused, which killed Daniel Jonas, and nearly killed Brady (Eric Martsolf) as well, and though he is resigned to the fact that he has to serve time for his crime, it won't make it any easier as he says goodbye to the loved ones he has to leave behind.

He hasn't been a favorite person for many around town since causing the accident and taking Daniel away, but his loved ones are still going to be hurting from his being gone. Marlena (Deirdre Evans) and Roman (Josh Taylor) will find it particularly hard as they are now left with none of the children they share in Salem, since Sami (Allison Sweeney) has been keeping underground since she stole the DiMera's money when she came home for Will's funeral. John (Drake Hogestyn) will also feel teary-eyed about Eric's having to leave, even though his son was also almost killed in the accident.

However, perhaps the most poignant-and awkward-goodbye could be the one Eric shares with Jennifer (Melissa Reeves). Since the accident, she has hurt her back, and has become addicted to her pain pills. Eric quickly caught on to her problem and tried to get her help, to no avail, but the two have grown closer as they've both battles their demons from drugs and alcohol.

In fact, after his sentence was handed down, Eric sought consolation from a very high Jennifer, and after a few drinks as well, the two wound up making love unexpectedly. And now, as they sober up and realize what they did-and that the day Eric leaves is upon them, it could make for an interesting goodbye.

Days of Our Lives airs Monday-Friday at 1 p.m. on NBC.
