The numbers are in. According to overnight Nielsen ratings, 47.8 percent of TV homes watched the nail-biting game, making it the most-watched program in TV history.

Approximately 111.3 million viewers tuned in to watch the Giants defeat the Patriots, narrowly edging out last year's record-breaking Super Bowl ratings.

Super Bowl XLV made U.S. television history with nearly 111.0 million viewers. In 2010, Super Bowl XLIV also broke viewership records previously held by the 1983 M*A*S*H series finale, which had 106.5 million people glued to the set.
