Fans were heartbroken when landmark couple Sonny (Freddie Smith) and Will were written off the canvas just one year after they married on Days of Our Lives-but at least one half of 'WilSon' is officially coming back to Salem!

According to reports, Smith is officially already back on set and filming scenes again as Sonny Kiriakis, after his character left last year to take a job with his Uncle Victor's (John Aniston) company in Paris. He returned for a few brief episodes a few months later when Will (then portrayed by Guy Wilson) was killed off as one of the victims of the Necktie Killer.

However, it appears Smith has already returned and been filming for the show, and is already set to reappear on-screen in July of this year, though the details behind why Sonny decides to come back to Salem are unclear.

If he is coming back and the show is still set on keeping Will dead, Sonny would be able to rekindle the one-time romance he had off-screen with Paul (Christopher Sean), who's appearance in Salem was one of the catalysts for the several problems which plagued Will and Sonny's marriage and led to Sonny's leaving. However, rumors did surface that Will's initial portrayer, Chandler Massey, was potentially coming back to the role, meaning that 'WilSon' could be a thing again if the writers find a way to reverse Will's death.

Will and Sonny's marriage was rocked after Will headed to L.A. to try to make it as a screenwriter, but when he returned he shockingly hooked up with Paul while writing a story on him. He later learned Paul was Sonny's ex and tried to continually manipulate things in an attempt to repair the mistakes he had made in his marriage, but his actions continued to further push his husband away.

The change in the couple's storyline was one which wasn't entirely well-received by fans after the couple's wedding just one year earlier in 2014-a wedding which made daytime history as the first which featured two grooms marrying one another.

Days of Our Lives airs Monday-Friday at 1 p.m. on NBC.
