Somewhere in the cold, dead chambers of his heart, The Flash's Zoom is capable of affection.

As much as we get a kick out of saying his name like a Mazda commercial, the Earth-2 villain is no laughing matter. He played the STAR labs team like a fiddle as Jay, but soon Hunter (Teddy Sears) will return to show his real colors.

Despite his manipulative sociopathic personality, there is one person for whom the demonic speedster did have genuine feelings - Jay's love for Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) was no farce.

"That's something that [executive producer] Andrew Kreisberg, from the beginning, wanted to hammer into me. While there were games being played on all the other members of S.T.A.R. Labs, what he felt for Caitlin was the real deal," Sears told Entertainment Weekly. "That adds a really interesting dynamic to this moving forward. He essentially is one gigantic liar who has played them all, but he never played her."

The thirst is real, apparently.

It's not like this reveal redeems the Crimson Comet in any way, shape or form. A devil can mask his identity to fall in love with a grieving angel, but no amount of dopamine or serotonin can erase the fact that their entire relationship was based on the mother of all deceptions. As The Flash moves into "Versus Zoom," viewers will learn just how Zoom's Earth-1 girlfriend is connected to his backstory.

"There are real feelings there," Sears revealed. "There's even an under-layer based on where he came from in his life - his origin story - that plays a big part in why he wants her, why he needs her, why he loves her."
