'Arrow' Season 4 Spoilers: Flashbacks Of Oliver's Origins To Eventually Reveal The Mystery Of The Bratva Tattoo? [VIDEO]
There has been a lot of discussion surrounding the Oliver (Stephen Amell) flashback timeline on Arrow and fans are curious to find out where it is headed.
The flashback essentially starts with Oliver from five years prior to where he was at in the pilot of the series. Oliver's origins reveal he was a billionaire, and will gradually bring us up to speed with Oliver's evolution until the pilot.
In a recent interview with TVLine, showrunner Marc Guggenheim dished about the siginificance of the flashbacks and how they intended to treat them.
"Part of the appeal of the flashbacks - certainly in the first two years, but I think the first three years - is seeing what a big difference it is between Oliver Queen in the present day and Oliver Queen five years ago," he said. "The problem is that we are telling a five-year story in the flashbacks of Oliver becoming the guy you met in the pilot. So the deeper you get into the flashbacks, the closer he becomes to being that guy, and, thus, you lose that element of the flashbacks that was so interesting, which is how different he was.... That's something we have struggled with this year."
Even executive producer Wendy Mericle spoke to the entertainment website, revealing that eventually, perhaps in the next season, various mysteries about the origins of certain facets of Oliver persona will be revealed via the flashbacks.
"I don't want to tip too much," Mericle said, "but it's a very good possibility that we'll finally find out how Oliver got that Bratva tattoo and how he learned to speak Russian."
Here's the official synopsis for the next episode, 'Canary Cry':
"Oliver and the team struggle to come to terms with Laurel's death, especially Diggle who is overwhelmed with guilt for choosing to believe Andy had changed. Meanwhile, Lance refuses to believe his daughter is really gone and asks Nyssa to help bring her back. A recent Black Canary sighting in Star City only seems to prove his theory that Laurel isn't actually dead."
"Canary Cry" is set to air on April 27.
