Even though Taylor Schilling doesn't appear to be wearing makeup on Orange Is the New Black, the actress recently admitted that this is not actually the case!

Schilling, who plays Piper Chapman on Orange Is the New Black, spoke with People recently about the process of having her character appear to have no makeup while actually having to wear makeup.

"It does take time to get Piper [ready] - it takes far more makeup than you would imagine for me to look like I'm wearing absolutely no makeup," Schilling revealed. "And Piper doesn't have as much access to makeup, so she's sort of the default setting - she doesn't really have a choice - but for me, I prefer to be bare as much as possible."

Of course, Piper is an inmate so there's very minimal makeup being used, but Schilling spoke on the psychological nature of playing a character that doesn't wear it.

"I think it's very liberating to [play a character who doesn't wear makeup]," she said. "It knocks away one level of artifice, and I think that is what I appreciate most about acting. It's trying to drill down to the truth of a character, or situation or a circumstance and in some cases, lots of makeup helps with that. In this situation, in the story of Piper Chapman, it really illuminates interesting parts of her that she doesn't wear any makeup."

It will be interesting to see where things go for Piper in season 4. She created a huge panty business in season 3 and manipulated the conniving Stella (Ruby Rose) out of jail and into maximum security. With Stella (who was also a love interest for Piper) now out of the way, will she turn her attention back to Alex (Laura Prepon)? Only time will tell, though many shippers are certainly hoping for it.

Orange Is the New Black season 4 is set to drop on Friday, June 17 on Netflix.
