This past week of Dancing With the Stars did not exactly go well for Paige VanZant and Mark Ballas, despite a strong dance on Monday.

VanZant and Ballas had to switch their dance routine entirely last Wednesday because the show wasn't able to get the rights. Ballas then had to quickly put together an Austin Powers-inspired routine, which viewers saw on Monday.

"I put in so much preparation, but we had it yanked. So we couldn't even start our rehearsals until Thursday," Ballas told People after the show.

Complicating matters was that Ballas had to accommodate for VanZant's schedule, having to move the rehearsals to Las Vegas.

"We only had an hour and a half to rehearse with the [background] dancers here in Los Angeles before we had to go to Vegas," Ballas noted. "The other dancers would take videos of their rehearsals and send them to me and I would call them to let them know what to clean up."

While the couple went "down to the wire," with rehearsing the dance, Ballas ultimately admitted "we had a blast out there. It was a lot of fun."

VanZant and Ballas ultimately had one of the best scoring dances of the night, receiving a 28 out of 30 from the judges. Head judge Len Goodman gave out one of his elusive 10s, revealing there was nothing about the dance he didn't like.

However, the couple is likely facing greater pressure after what happened in the final moments of the show. VanZant and Ballas ended up being one of the last couples to be called safe during the results and while that doesn't indicate that they were in the Bottom 3, it may have an effect on them psychologically to step up their game even more.

Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
