'Live With Kelly and Michael' News: Ripa & Strahan Nab Emmy Wins, Didn't Show Up To Accept? [VIDEO]
Amid all the chaos behind the scenes at Live! With Kelly and Michael, the hosts can at least celebrate their big win at Sunday night's Daytime Emmys!
Live! With Kelly and Michael hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan won the Emmy for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host at the Daytime Emmys Sunday night. Neither were able to attend in person, likely due to the event taking place in Los Angeles at a late hour, with the hosts having to tape a show early Monday morning.
Dr. Mehmet Oz accepted the award on Ripa and Strahan's behalf.
"I don't think they're here... Will accept on their behalf - and Kelly and Michael will share it!" Dr. Oz said.
This was Ripa and Strahan's second win in a row in this category, which was invented last year after splitting Outstanding Talk Show Host into Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host and Outstanding Informative Talk Show Host. Ripa won the Outstanding Talk Show Host category two times with her previous co-host, Regis Philbin.
The win comes just two weeks after it was announced that Strahan was moving on from Live! The ex-NFL star accepted a job at Good Morning America. The news was a big surprise to many behind the scenes at Live!, including Ripa herself. The perky host took off the rest of the week following the announcement before returning last Tuesday.
Strahan's final Live! show will be Friday, May 13. The show is expected to cycle in various guest co-hosts with Ripa before making a decision on who will become her new permanent co-host.
"Our long national nightmare is over," Ripa quipped in her big return to Live!. "I first want to honestly, sincerely thank you for welcoming me back to the show. The show of support in this bizarre time has been overwhelming."
Ripa also discussed why she took off those first few days after Strahan's announcement.
"I needed a couple of days to gather my thoughts. After 26 years with this company, I earned the right," she said. Ripa also joked that half the audience called in sick to work in order to attend Live, "So, we get each other."
