'Castle' Season 8 Spoilers: Will 'Everything End In Tragedy' for Rick & Kate? [VIDEO]
Based on the promo for the upcoming season 8 finale of ABC's Castle, Beckett (Stana Katic) may be about to suffer a tragic fate.
The trailer for the upcoming season finale of Castle suggests that both Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett will be in danger. This is clear from the start of the promo, with an ominous man bluntly telling a strapped-down Castle that "Kate Beckett is going to be dead by the end of the night and there is nothing you can do about it."
This man, who may or may not be the mysterious LokSat, also tells a tearful Castle, "Everything ends in tragedy - even an epic love story like yours."
Castle and Beckett are seen embracing in the final moments of the trailer, sharing meaningful "I love yous."
The ABC press release for this final episode suggests that things may end in tragedy:
"With their best lead in hand, Castle and Beckett are ready to take on LokSat. But an unforeseen twist puts their case - and their lives - in jeopardy," it reads.
It's a difficult time to be a Castle fan, ever since it was announced that Katic would not be returning for a prospective ninth season. The decision, reportedly made by ABC for budgetary reasons, has been almost universally derided by longtime fans, who insist that there is simply no show without Beckett alongside Castle.
The finale is expected to be a big one, regardless of what happens. Castle co-showrunner Alexi Hawley spoke on this in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.
"We wanted to turn it to 11, so to speak, and really challenge the characters and our actors and our director," Hawley teased. "We really gave them a dynamic episode that's scary, it's funny, and it's emotional. That's the finale - we figured we'd go big."
ABC has yet to make a decision on whether to renew or cancel Castle.
The Castle season 8 finale airs next Monday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
