Faking It has officially come to an end on MTV, and unfortunately for the "Karmy Army" Karma (Katie Stevens) and Amy (Rita Volk) didn't wind up together, but could they have if the show had lived to see another season?

Following the series finale on Tuesday night, show creator Carter Covington revealed what his plans had been for the show's fourth season, and though he admits he never intended for the show to end with the two best friends actually being a couple at the end, the idea of them exploring a dating relationship, for real this time, was going to be on the table.

"I've always seen that the last season of Faking It would explore Karma wondering why her friendship with Amy is so important to her and why she's been unable to let Amy go-why it's hard for her to have relationships with other people because Amy keeps coming into it," Covington told MTV News. "Wondering if she maybe made a mistake and trying to make it work with Amy-and then them realizing as a couple there's a lot about it that works and a lot about it that doesn't. And then being able to move on as best friends exploring being a couple."

Because the series was ended prematurely, the season 3 finale became the series finale, and because of that the couplings wound up differently. Despite a bad break-up, Amy gave Sabrina (Sophia Taylor Ali) a second chance, while Karma and Felix (Parker Mack) wound up sharing a sweet kiss. Shane (Michael J Willett) and Noah (Elliot Fletcher) worked through their issues and reconciled as well, while Lauren (Bailey De Young) and Liam (Gregg Sulkin) realized their fake relationship had some real sparks.

Covington admitted that a fourth season would have also explored how these couplings played out and led to what would have been a more satisfying conclusion.

"We would have explored the complications that arose with Amy now happy with Sabrina but finding out that Karma is dating Felix-and she's had feelings for both of them," he said. "Karma and Felix negotiating what their relationship is-both of them also having had feelings for Amy. And then when you throw in that Liam and Lauren have an attraction-and negotiating what that means for them-I think it was a recipe for a lot of drama and complications."
