Actress and The Talk show co-host Sarah Gilbert announced on Monday that she is engaged to her girlfriend, singer-songwriter Linda Perry.

She revealed to her co-hosts and members of the audience that Perry, the former member of 4 Non Blondes, proposed to her over a surprise musical picnic. Gilbert said the couple was having lunch in Los Angeles when a random street musician started playing one of their favorite songs.

"We go to a park, and we have food and we're eating it, it's really sweet and there's this guy sitting playing guitar, like a street musician, and he starts playing this song that we love," she said. "I'm like, 'Oh, that's so weird, this is so magical and amazing."

Gilbert recalled the proposal on the morning show and said that Perry asked the musician to play another song that she didn't think he would know. She added, "But this other song is really obscure and this guy wouldn't know it, but magically he knows it."

Gilbert continued and said that random picknickers next to the couple pulled out instruments from under their blankets and walked over and started playing The Cure's Love Song.

USA Today reported that Perry then put on a series of T-shirts, each with different words on them.

" 'Will,' and then she puts on another T-shirt that says 'You,' 'Marry,' 'Me' and the last one is a question mark. And then she goes to her backpack and gets a ring," Gilbert said.

Perry then arranged for the band to play John Waite's Missing You. Gilbert called it "like, the most amazing proposal ever."

Gilbert, 38, who starred as Darlene Conner on the 1990s hit-TV comedy Roseanne, was previously in a 10-year relationship with Allison Adler. The two share custody of son Levi, 8 and daughter, Sawyer, 5. Gilbert and Adler split in August 2011 and the talk show host began dating Perry later that year.

Gilbert told the audience that she wanted to share with them news of her engagement because she appreciates their love and support.

"I'm super shy and don't usually want to tell anything. But I wanted you guys to know because I feel like you're a part of our family here," Gilbert added.
