HBO's Boardwalk Empire is still a significant amount of time away from airing its fourth season, which isn't scheduled to launch until the fall. However, that hasn't stopped the casting rumors, which recently resurfaced again.

The popular cable series has been on the hunt for an actor to don the role of infamous FBI director J. Edgar Hoover. Hoover and his department's claim to fame occurred in 1924, the same year that Nucky (Steve Buscemi) and the rest of the cast will be in when the upcoming installment kicks off.

According to Screencrush, actor Eric Ladin, known for his work on The Killing's, has reportedly landed the role of the 27-year-old Hoover, but it's still up in the air as to how large his part will be.

Deadline had said that Ladin would appear in "an unknown amount of episodes," but an earlier report stated that the Hoover character would only be in one scene with the potential to return.

In other news pertaining to the upcoming season, showrunner Terence Winter confirmed that Kelly MacDonald (Margaret Thompson) and Gretchen Mol (Gillian Darmody) would be returning. Also, Man of Steel's Michael Shannon (Nelson Van Alden) is said to have a meaty part as a member of Al Capone's mob.

Boardwalk Empire is set to premiere its fourth season at some point in the fall of 2013. Footage from its season 3 finale can be viewed below.
