Alec Baldwin NBC Late Night Host? Network Executive Reveals Possibility [Video]
Alec Baldwin's name was recently added to the category of late night television hosts, after an executive involved in NBC's programming plans revealed that the Emmy winner is being considered for his own after-hours talk show.
The executive asked to remain anonymous because talks were still in early stages, according to The New York Times. The news report added that most likely, Baldwin would be placed in the latest of NBC entries - the show now called Last Call, which is a half-hour interview program that stars Carson Daly.
Baldwin ended his run as a star on the NBC comedy 30 Rock this season. The show won his two Emmy awards for Best Actor in a Comedy for his character Jack Donaghy. He had a podcast series with WNYC radio called Here's The Thing and currently heads the cast of the Broadway hit Orphans.
NBC is already in the midst of having a major change in its late-night talk show lineup. The network confirmed earlier in April that Jimmy Fallon - currently the host of his own NBC show, Late Night - will take over the Tonight show from Jay Leno when the veteran leaves in February 2014. Not only will the show have a new host, but it will move from Los Angeles to New York City for filming.
Leno confirmed news of his replacement during his show earlier this month.
"Congratulations Jimmy," he said to his studio audience. "I hope you're as lucky as me and hold on to the job until you're the old guy. If you need me, I'll be at the garage."
He added, "There's really nothing to say. We both know the deal. He knows; I know. I'd rather just forget."
There has been no animosity between the two hosts, according to reports, and on April 1 they acted together in a skit that poked fun at the NBC move to replace Leno. Together they sang a rendition of the West Side Story song Tonight, a clear reference to Leno's show. Watch their skit in the video below.
