Fans are not giving up on that Nashville petition.

As of Wednesday, the petition that can potentially help save the series from cancellation has scored more than 5,000 signatures in just one day. There is a total of more than 100,000 signatures so far, but odds are likely that fans won't stop there.

While this definitely creates a buzz, the show is still canceled at this point. Perhaps, it could end up on a different network though with some options being Hulu, Netflix or CMT.

In a previous report from Entertainment Weekly, ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey opened up on why Nashville as well as ABC series Castle were canceled so suddenly.

"In terms of behind the scenes things that were happening on both Castle and Nashville, the studios in each case were looking for the best creative and financial ways to make room for a ninth season of Castle or a fifth season of Nashville," Dungey said. "They were definitely engaged in a bunch of conversations at the studio they felt would set them up for the best [chance] of success should they get the order."

With the new line-up coming out this fall, the producers had to make some tough decisions for the network.

"In terms of what we were discussing internally on the network side, it was [what was] best for the schedule and, obviously, looking at ratings, looking at our own planning and looking at some of the new development," Dungey continued. "A lot of those decisions really did come down to the wire, which is a difficult thing about these jobs. You have to weigh and measure a lot of different things."

The final episode of Nashville airs on Wednesday, May 25 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
