Fox Pulls Boston Marathon ‘Family Guy’ Episode; MacFarlane Condemns YouTube Mashup
Fox has pulled the Family Guy episode, Turban Cowboy, from websites following a fan made video that distorts the plot to make it look like show creators predicted the Boston Marathon bombings back in March.
In the episode, which aired on March 17, main character Peter Griffin befriends a terrorist who happens to be planning to blow up two local bridges. Later, Peter unknowingly detonates the bombs when he tries to place a call on his cell phone. In an unrelated scene, Peter is seen talking with sports anchor Bob Costas after he wins the Boston Marathon by running over people with his car.
In the fan video, the two unrelated scenes are mashed together to paint a gruesome picture. Creator Seth MacFarlane took to Twitter to express his disgust at the video currently making its way around the internet.
"The edited Family Guy clip currently circulating is abhorrent," tweeted MacFarlane. "The event was a crime and a tragedy, and my thoughts are with the victims."
Fox has removed the episode from both their website and from the popular video streaming service, Hulu. According to the Los Angeles Times, a Fox spokeswoman stated that the network is not currently planning on airing the episode again anytime soon.
