Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham said last week she filmed a "personal (sex) video" for herself with adult film star James Deen, but her friend revealed a different reason for making the tape.

A friend of the reality star said Abraham is desperate to remain a celebrity in the spotlight. The source said despite the milestones Abraham has achieved since her show ended after four seasons in September of 2012, she felt pressured to do whatever it takes to achieve the same fame she garnered as a MTV star.

The insider reportedly told Us Weekly that Abraham decided to "take the Kim Kardashian route" by achieving mega-success after the "leak" of a sex tape.

Kardashian filmed a sex tape in 2003 with her then-boyfriend, singer Ray J. When the sex tape went public in 2007, Kardashian became a star overnight and landed the reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians with E! several months later.

Abraham attended culinary school and sought to get a reality show about her goals as an aspiring chef, but it never went to production. The mother-of-one put out her own line of pasta sauce called Mom & Me Premium Italian Hot Pepper Sauce, released a book titled My Teenage Dream Ended and has also released music.

Abraham at first denied a sex tape existed but then fessed up and admitted she made it for her personal collection in a statement to TODAY. She added that she was upset with Abraham for "running his mouth."

"After seeing James speaking about my personal video as a porn and not even contacting me before running his mouth, I have to say I am very disappointed," Abraham said. "I personally will never have anything to do with James."

She has since received an offer of $100,000 for the footage from a Canadian porn website. She told TMZ her attorney is reviewing an offer from an adult film company but she "will not be settling for anything less than a couple million [dollars]."

Us Weekly reported on April 13 that Abraham sent a cease and desist regarding the tape to Steve Hirsch, head of porn company Vivid. Abraham and Deen were seen walking holding hands as they were leaving TMZ's office on April 7. Deen then revealed that Abraham was paid for the video they recorded and in a deal similar to Kardashian and Paris Hilton's, Vivid would "leak" the tape and sell it to the public.

TMZ obtained Abraham's letter, which reads, "Ms. Abraham retains ownership rights in this video and any unlawful conduct could infringe on those rights."
