The Shadow World has officially changed hands. Shadowhunters' new showrunners are here, and they're ready to steer the Freeform series into season 2.

The cast of Freeform's supernatural-charged teen drama returned to set last week, but just as the actors stepped foot in Toronto, the search was suddenly on for a new guiding light. After a successful first season, showrunner Ed Decter stepped down on Thursday.

Although production rolled on under the auspices of director McG, Freeform was quick to fill the gap. The network has tapped Smallville's Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer to take over the reigns, according Deadline. After seven years working with The CW's original Man of Steel, the pair moved on to Melrose Place, No Ordinary Family, Alphas, Dominion, and Defiance. Currently, Slavkin and Swimmer are serving as executive producers on Freeform's summer hit, Guilt. Comprised of equal parts sci-fi, drama, and sexy vibes, the partners' histories play straight into the network's vision for the Cassandra Clare adaptation.

It is currently unknown exactly where season 2 will head thematically, particularly since Decter departed due to "creative differences."

"Farewell Shadow World! The @ShadowhuntersWR, cast and crew the finest I have ever worked with! Love to our SH FANS, best on earth!" Decter tweeted late last week.

Does this mean Shadowhunters' tone will take a drastic turn? That is certainly a definite possibility. For those fans disgruntled with the drama's divergence form the books, this switch up could ultimately become a game changer.
