The executive producers on Fox's Bones are feeling very emotional about the show's upcoming final season.

Bones fans are devastated to see their favorite show go off the air next year, but perhaps none more so than the show's producers. EPs Michael Peterson and Jonathan Collier spoke at Comic-Con back in July about Bones, as seen in a new video posted by TVInsider, discussing their emotions about the end being near.

"Full-on denial. I don't believe it's the final season. It feels great," Peterson admitted. "Really, to be given this honor, to plan out the last 12 and to have fun. And we got Zack [Eric Millegan] back! You asked for it, it happened. But the story is not yet done. We're having fun with that, and we're having fun with every one of the characters. Hopefully we'll give something that is unexpected, but rewarding."

Meanwhile, Collier stated that this is the right time and way to end the 12-season series.

"It's powerful and emotional, I've got to say, because the show has been so good to us; we've loved the show," he said. "And there's something very bittersweet about ending it. I think we're doing it at a good time, at a good place, there's no question. I love the way we're doing it, I love having 12 episodes to do it in, all of that's right. But it's a big part of me now. I'm really going to miss it."

Peterson admitted that it's been relatively easy so far with writing the first few episodes of season 12, but it's going to be much harder when it gets to that series finale point.

The series has been a mainstay on Fox since the 2005-06 TV season and while the show has aired on just about every night of the week, the fanbase has remained relatively consistent in their love for it.

Bones season 12 is set to premiere at some point in 2017 on Fox, though the network has not yet announced a premiere date.
