'Walking Dead' Season 4 Spoilers: Daryl Most Likely To Take Reigns As Group Leader If Rick's Killed? [VIDEO]
Millions of fans across the U.S. are eagerly awaiting the return of their favorite zombie series, The Walking Dead. While its fourth season is still a considerable amount of time away from launching, that hasn't halted the show's loyalists from obsessively scouring the web for the latest dirt.
Walking Dead comic book writer/creator Robert Kirkman had caught several fans off guard when he made it clear that the death of prison group leader Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) isn't out of the question like many had assumed.
"We've been saying that no one is safe on this show, and I wouldn't rule out seeing the death of Rick Grimes at almost any point," he said.
If Rick were to bite the dust, several other names were mentioned by Kirkman to take over the reigns as group leader: Daryl (Norman Reedus), Glen (Steven Yeun), or Maggie (Lauren Cohan).
"I think seeing Daryl or Maggie or Glenn picking up a larger leadership role in the group could pose some interesting possibilities," Kirkman added.
Theoretically, if Rick were to be killed off, the top logical choice to fill his shoes would be Daryl. Out of all the prison group members, he has the least amount of fear, and has done an exceptionally job protecting his fellow human group members.
To top it off, the younger Dixon is surely hell-bent on revenge following the death of his big brother Merle (Michael Rooker) at the end of season 3.
AMC's The Walking Dead is set to make its return in October 2013. Only time will tell what Rick and the rest of the prison group's fate ultimately is.
