Fans who thought the material on Days of Our Lives has gotten increasingly more dark and haven't liked it can look forward to the future, as newer material by the show's new writing team is set to air soon and is set to transform the show and take it out of that darker place.

Dena Higley and Ryan Quan, the newest writing team on the soap, will have material which begins to air on September 6, according to a tweet Higley sent out to her followers earlier this week.

"Thanks to my DOOL family for my personal time off," she wrote. "Very excited to co-head write with amazing Ryan Quan. Our material starts to air 9/6."

It's still unknown what the pair actually envision for the show's future, though some big storylines are set to begin unfolding when the show returns from its Olympic break August 22. Among the big storylines will include Hope's (Kristian Alfonso) secret being revealed to Aiden (Daniel Cosgrove), Kay;a's (Mary Beth Evans) head injury getting worse, and Brady (Eric Martsolf) and Theresa's (Jen Lilley) wedding getting interrupted when a jailbreak occurs and Clyde (James Read), Orpheus (George DelHoyo) and Xander (Paul Telfer) all come back to Salem.

However, Executive producer Ken Cordray did open up in a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest to reveal that the Higley/Quan material will definitely get things on a different path and help to reset the show.

"I have been waiting to do this interview for about six months because we wrote the shows coming up and taped them six months ago, and I knew then I'd be very excited about the show because it is reset," he said. "Dena and Ryan have done a wonderful job of resetting it and getting it out of that dark place it was in."

Days of Our Lives airs Monday-Friday at 1 p.m. on NBC.
