The suspense surrounding the season 4 finale episode of CW's The Vampire Diaries continues to increasingly build, as trouble continues to brew in Mystic Falls.

Elena's (Nina Dobrev) humanity is still out of reach while Silas still remains at large. Since Elena's vampire turn at the start of the fourth season, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) have increasingly attempted to locate the cure.

"We have a lot of questions on the table about Elena. Is she stuck this way forever? Is she ever going to turn her humanity back on? If she does, will the sire bond be back in effect or gone? If it's gone, what are her feelings for Damon vs. her feelings for Stefan? The whole season has been trying to get Elena back to who she was, so everything will be answered in the finale," Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec told TV Guide.

While in attendance for Wondercon's Fan Favorite Showrunner Panel on March 30, Plec did inform the site that one of the show's characters will indeed be taking the cure in the season 4 finale.

Next up for The Vampire Diaries will be its She's Come Undone episode, which airs on Thursday, May 2 at 8 p.m. EDT. However, the season finale is scheduled for May 16.
