'Big Bang Theory' Season 6 Spoilers: Professor Proton To Return For More Episodes In Future? Details & VIDEO
CBS' The Big Bang Theory will be returning on Thursday night with an all-new episode titled The Proton Resurgence, which will feature the return of legendary sitcom actor Bob Newhart.
Newhart will come on board to guest star as Professor Proton, a boyhood idol of Sheldon's (Jim Parsons) that used to host a children's science show. When he finds out that Newhart's character is now offering his services for events, he takes advantage of the opportunity and books him for a gig at his apartment.
While chatting with The Hollywood Reporter, Newhart stated that while he hasn't graced the world of television in years, he has indeed been approached with several offers.
"I don't know how many legs this character has. That's up to them. We'll talk about it if they feel they want more. That's strictly up to them. I didn't just want to do a one-shot. I wanted to make it semi-recurring. At this point, that's what it was. It was very enjoyable. I loved it."
Prior to taking on the role, Newhart laid out some requirements for his appearance - it couldn't just be for a single episode and his scenes had to happen in front of a live audience, stated the site.
The Big Bang Theory will be airing The Proton Resurgence on Thursday, May 2 at 8/7c. Be sure to check back for more of the latest details on the series.
