'Outlander' Season 3: 'Hobbit' & 'Waling Dead' Stars Snag Young Ian & Joe Abernathy Roles! [VIDEO]
Outlander is rounding out its season 3 cast with a few fan favorites. Starz has found the perfect matches for Young Ian and Joe Abernathy.
The son of Ian and Jenny, Young Ian is a youthful rapscallion with his heart set on adventure. Born while the Red Coats were still in pursuit of Jamie (Sam Heughan), the Scottish lad eventually teams up with his uncle and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) in both his homeland and the Americas. Outlander selected John Bell for the role, and, having seen the actor in The Hobbit trilogy, we're convinced he is the perfect match for Diana Gabaldon's creation.
Meanwhile, The Walking Dead’s Wil Johnson will play Joe Abernathy. One of Claire’s close friends and medical colleagues, Abernathy will enter the story in Boston, according to Variety.
Unlike season 2 and Dragonfly in Amber, the events of Voyager will translate to the small screen with few tweaks.
“Some things get moved around, but the third book is not nearly the same challenge as the second book is. Voyager is a little bit more of a straight-ahead narrative and the adaptation process has already proven easier in the writers room because the structure is a little bit more straightforward,” showrunner Ron Moore told Deadline.
“Even in the first season we re-sequenced things and moved certain elements around, so that’s just part of doing an adaptation, but it’s just not as big a hill to climb in the third season, so we’re all feeling pretty optimistic and pretty good about where the third season is taking us.”
