He was worried when Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) was rushed to the hospital after falling down the stairs during another argument, but now, Jack (Peter Bergmann) will be more stunned than ever about his plans to divorce her when he gets wind of a vicious rumor about his marriage on The Young and the Restless.

He has repeatedly told Phyllis since learning of her affair with Billy (Jason Thompson) that he wants a divorce, which was what they were discussing before her accident. And though he was concerned after she fell, he decided to leave the hospital after witnessing a tender moment where Billy was in her room with her. But after he leaves, he will be further dismayed to learn that the accident has become news-and the news does not portray him in a positive light.

"Then you've heard the rumor?" A reporter asks him in a preview clip for the Monday, September 26 episode.

"What rumor?" He asks.

"That you beat up your wife," the reporter replies.

The moment will lead Jack into a bit of a tailspin, since he not only believes there is genuine love between his wife and brother, but that he is now believed to have committed domestic abuse, and he will see his father's ghost. He will be encouraged to find forgiveness, but even Billy going to him after Phyllis wakes up and tells him the only man she wants is Jack and letting him know he is officially bowing out and letting Phyllis be happy with him may not be enough-and he may refuse to forgive either of them because of their betrayal.

Billy went to his brother because he did manage to help Phyllis wake up, and when she did, he made an impassioned speech to her about how he genuinely believed the two of them belonged together.

"If you look into your heart, you will find the truth that you love me too, and we can still be together," he says in the clip.

But Phyllis will be determined to work things out with Jack, which sent Billy on his way to let his brother know,. But if she learns that Jack refuses to come see her, she could realize she may have just lost both of the Abbott men.

The Young and the Restless airs Monday-Friday at 12:30 p.m. on CBS.
