The saga between Chris Brown and Rihanna continues. E! News reports the ex-couple -- who split after Brown assaulted Rihanna three years ago -- are in talks with American Idol producers to perform together on the show.

Sources tell E! News the idea is only in the beginning stages. However, reps for Rihanna shot down the rumor, saying, "It's not true."

News of the possible joint performance by Rihanna and Brown comes days after the singers released two duets, igniting speculation the former flames were back together.

If the Idol collaboration does take place, it will be their first onstage appearance together since 2009, when Brown took a felony rap for beating Rihanna at a pre-Grammy party.

Reps for Brown and Fox have yet to comment.
