Ryan Murphy has officially confirmed the return of Taissa Farmiga to FX's American Horror Story!

Farmiga will be appearing in American Horror Story: Roanoke - her first role since season 3's Coven. American Horror Story showrunner Ryan Murphy confirmed this in a new interview with E! News, teasing that she will have a "really, really great part and we love her," adding, "We're very excited-she's a part of our world and always will be, and I always wanted her to come back."

So who exactly will Farmiga be playing? That much is unclear at this moment, but let's speculate:

-Scathach

With such a high profile return as Farmiga's, it's possible that she could be the real Scathach witch, played in the dramatic reenactment by Lady Gaga. Murphy revealed in a recent interview that Scathach is the original Supreme witch, so it would also tie in directly with Coven.

-A random ghost

American Horror Story: Roanoke went in a whole new direction in Episode 6, with Shelby (Lily Rabe), Matt (Andre Holland) and Lee (Adina Porter) returning to the haunted Roanoke property with their acting counterparts, Audrey (Sarah Paulson), Dominic (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and Monet (Angela Bassett), plus Rory (Evan Peters). We saw that the haunting has already begun, with various spirits appearing around them, so Farmiga could very easily play a ghost of some kind.

-Documentary crew member

Farmiga could play a member of the Return to Roanoke documentary that we haven't seen yet. Things having already gone wrong within the house, her character could step in as a moral figure to protect Shelby, Matt, Lee and their counterparts from the mysterious forces surrounding them. After all, Farmiga has a knack for playing characters on the side of good.

-Zoe Benson

Murphy has stated that all the seasons of American Horror Story are interconnected, and we are seeing more and more connections every year at this point. While Murphy did teased that Farmiga has a "really, really great part" this season, that doesn't necessarily rule out her returning to her witchy Coven role. Shelby, Matt, Lee et. al might need all the help they can get.

American Horror Story: Roanoke airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
