'Grey's Anatomy' Season 9 Episode 'Perfect Storm:' Derek Misses Meredith's Delivery & C-Section in the Dark as Storm Rages? VIDEO/PHOTOS
The season finale of Grey's Anatomy airs Thursday and ABC released photos hinting at what viewers can expect to see, primarily in regards to Meredith Grey's delivery after her water broke in last week's episode.
A major storm hit Seattle in last week's episode and shortly after Grey's water broke, putting her in labor three weeks before her due date. As the hospital tries to prepare for the storm, Grey and Shepard are mostly worried about their unborn child's life. However, the show's official Twitter page released a photo hinting to the fact that Shepard might miss his wife's delivery. The image only shows a quote by Grey, who calls out to her husband saying "Derek?"
A clip from the finale, shown here, features Grey getting intense contractions as the lights of the hospital flicker on and off from the storm, proving that the weather will not allow Grey to have a smooth delivery. The doctors may even have to do a C-section in the dark and once the child is born, he does not immediately cry, which scares Grey.
A second image, shows a battered Jo return to work at the hospital after getting bruised by her boyfriend. The entire staff at Sloan Grey Memorial Hospital has come together to help in anticipation to the storm, which has already caused a tree to fall on Cristina Yang and Alex Karev's house and shatter a window.
The show's executive producer, Shonda Rhimes, announced on May 10 that Grey's Anatomy has been picked up to return for its tenth season. The showrunner, in a previous interview, revealed details about Grey's delivery taking place in the finale. She said Grey's delivery will not be easy and that she will give birth "in the last-worst situation you'd want to be giving birth. It's going to be not so pleasant for her."
Rhimes told TVLine the drama in the finale will not be limited to the "intense" childbirth Grey experiences.
ABC's official synopsis for the finale, titled Perfect Storm, is as follows: "As the storm rages, patients are brought to the hospital by the busload and resources dwindle; a doctor's life hangs in the balance."
