The season finale of Grey's Anatomy is Thursday on ABC, but fans already know to brace themselves for the Perfect Storm to come.

Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes teased to The Hollywood Reporter that fan favorites would be in jeopardy after a weather related crisis forces the hospital into one. Many of the characters will find their lives in danger and even if they survive, the damage may already be done. Recent episodes have shown Arizona getting closer with fellow doctor Lauren. She cheated on her wife Callie with the blonde and spoilers say that Calzona may be done for after the betrayal. Rimes told TV Line that the lesbian couple would not be spared their share of heartache.

"Straight people have their cheating moments all of the time. We've created this relationship that's very interesting and complex, and I feel like we're at a moment where this [temptation] feels earned," Rhimes said. "We're doing something that feels very in keeping with what's right for these characters."

Rhimes said that the cast was blown away when they read the script for the final. She labeled a scene involving the couple as breathtaking. It was one that brought the room to silence.

"It's the culmination of a [season-long] journey for these two characters," the show runner said.

Rimes is one to share the misery around with her characters and Meredith has been the show's long standing heroine since its inception. She and Derek have spent the season preparing for the birth of their child after they overcame a previous miscarriage. In last week's episode, Meredith went into labor and now must deliver her baby in the dark because of the weather crisis.

"This time, a power outage puts everyone in a terrible position - but none so precarious as the babies in the NICU," Zap It reported. "The doctors, outnumbered by the babies who need to be ventilated, have no choice but to teach the new parents to breathe for their newborns."

Owen and Crisitna will also have to confront the issue of Ethan. He has chosen his love over the boy he came to bond with, but may have some second thoughts.

"He clearly has made a choice in his mind that he's chosen Cristina and he's is with Cristina but I think things are going to get bumpy there for a while," Rhimes said.

However, Rhimes said that she would try to limit the fallout in this season's finale. Last year saw the characters of Lexi and Mark die. Rhimes said she was surprised by how brutal it turned out to be and would not put fans or the characters through that again.

"I don't think we're going to match that but for a lot of our characters, it's a much more emotional. There's a lot of emotional death," Rhimes said.
