Just off the completion of its fourth season, The CW's Vampire Diaries will now be looking ahead to Season 5.

Although most of the details on the upcoming story arc for the various characters still remain unclear, it does appear that Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) will stay out of the grave to play a more prominent role moving forward.

TVD loyalists are used to character deaths, as dying doesn't necessarily guarantee that the character will be gone forever. Hence, he or she can turn up as a ghost or vampire.

Nonetheless, the unexpected return of Jeremy following his death was a shocking revelation that a lot of fans didn't see coming.

Executive producer Julie Plec spoke to Zap2it about the change in creative plans that occurred with deciding Jeremy's ultimate fate.

"It's something that we talked about a lot. Our intention, originally, was to say goodbye [to Jeremy] permanently. But then a lot of questions came up about the power of this girl losing her only living relative. It was so important to her journey at that moment. The global, eternally reaching tragedy attached to that is really sad, and really depressing," she explained.

Although no airdate has yet to be announced, Vampire Diaries Season 5 is slated to begin in September. Keep checking back for more of the latest details.
