New Sci-fi Drama 'Extant' Looks For Support From Spielberg, Script by Mickey Fisher Makes Rounds in Hollywood
Extant, a new sci-fi television series, was picked up by WNE.
The script, written by unknown talent Mickey Fisher, has been making its rounds in an attempt to be picked up by a studio. Although the script was widely popular among studios, many wanted to turn it into a film. However, the plot lines laid out in the initial 56-page script are too complicated to be resolved in a feature length run time, according to Reuters.
"Everyone is freaking out about it," said a source at a rival firm, according to Reuters. "It's A.I. as a TV series."
The plot revolves around an earth bound husband, his pregnant space faring wife, and their robot son Ethan, reports Reuters.
Mickey Fisher was a finalist in the 2013 TRACKINGB TV contest. Although he did not win, the site describes his script as an 'hour-long sci-fi drama about an extraordinary family that changes the course of human history."
Fisher has signed with Brooklyn Weaver and WME. The agency is hoping to bring Steven Spielberg on board. At the moment Amblin TV (they also worked on ER) is handling the series.
According to Reuters, Warner Bros. were very interested in picking the script up as a movie but, in failing to do that, they are reported to be currently seeking another work by Fisher.
