'The Leftovers' Season 3 Spoilers: New Trailer Hints Doomsday Approaching; Series To Take Over 'Game Of Thrones' Timeslot [VIDEO]
HBO's psychological thriller fantasy drama, The Leftovers, is officially returning this year. Just recently, the network released a sneak peek of the upcoming third season and several speculations about the possible events that could happen are already appearing online.
Knowing that the series' most recent episode was aired on December 2015, fans have been looking forward to see the series again when HBO renewed it for a third and final season. However, things may not go as pleasant as some fans predict the upcoming season will be.
According to a report from The Independent, the trailer is summed up to an approaching doom and a twisted turn of events have been largely speculated. In the video, the main characters of the series, including Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux) and Matt Jamison (Christopher Eccleston) while looking up to the sky to see the words "the end is near."
It has been reported that the third season will have its new location on Australia. In an interview with one of the show's creator, Damon Lindelof, he explained why they have relocated this time. He said that Australia is geographically the end of the world, which explained the theme they will set for season 3. He also added that the impact of Australian cinema was one reason of the decision.
Meanwhile, the trailer also suggested that several actors will be present in the upcoming season to reprise their roles. Actors included to confirm for a third season appearance are Justin Theroux, Christopher Eccleston, Carrie Coon, Amy Brenneman, Scott Glenn. Aside from them Kevin Carroll and Jasmine Savoy Brown from season two will also join the cast lineup.
It has also been reported, this time by GQ, that HBO president of programming, Casey Bloys, has been hoping that this year, the underrated drama series could get a nod from the Emmy Awards. "I'm hoping that the final season of The Leftovers gets some Emmy love", Bloys said.
It can be recalled that another HBO fantasy drama, Game of Thrones, has been critically acknowledged and the network president hopes that The Leftovers would not be snubbed this tme.
The series is set for an April 16, 2017 season 3 premiere, and is reported to take Game of Thrones' usual time slot.
