CW's The Vampire Diaries continues to stir the pot of speculation over its upcoming fifth season. Although it's only been a couple weeks since the program ended its third season, fans have been scouring the Internet in order to get their hands on the latest info.

While no new details on the show's characters has come out, word has it that the creative brass is back at work, as executive producer Julie Plec took to Twitter on June 3 to give her loyalists confirmation on the promising news.

"Tomorrow: week 1 of TVD writers room. Did @carolinedries, @Young_Brian et al miss me like I missed them or am I co-dependent & delusional." she joked.

Carter Matt gave the following insight on the writing process as a whole:

"One of the earliest things that the writers all work together on is establishing a story for the overall season (or at least an arc of around 10-13 episodes), and then figuring out just where everything fits into place. This strategy is a way in which to ensure that there are overall ideas put into place before individual scripts - that way there is not some sort of need after the fact to alter or change things up beyond just some minor shifts here and there. While specific people may write drafts of each script, they often go through a number of rewrites and even suggestions from the network before making it to the air."

Although no airdate has yet to be announced, Vampire Diaries Season 5 is slated to begin at some point in September. Its spin-off series, The Originals, is set to start up again at some in October.
