'Friends! The Musical' to debut off-Broadway in the fall of 2017
The iconic TV show "Friends" would be getting a musical parody this fall, and would debut in New York City.
"Friends! The Musical" would be produced by the same people who have parodied a number of other productions, including "Bayside! The Musical", "90210! The Musical" and "Full House! The Musical".
According to FriendsMusicalParody, the parody will debut at The Triad Theatre. There have been no specific dates about its debut so far.
The iconic TV show of the early 2000s is still very popular among millions of people, and has inspired a number of set piece comedies like How I met Your Mother and Big Bang Theory, all of which are very successful.
Ever since the announcement, fans of the series have turned to social media to express their excitement, asking what kind of songs would be there in the musical and whether Joey's "How you doin'?" would be made into a song or not.
The TV show has become a cult for millenials and youngsters alike, and is loved by many. While there have been multiple TV shows that have tried to replicate the success of "Friends" by following the same pattern, only a handful have ever come close.
"Friends" reportedly has been assimilated and imitated by people all over the world. There have been speech changes, due to people observing the close interactions between Joey and Chandler. There also have been styles copied all over, including a number of cafes and restaurants that have been modelled after Central Perk, the cafe in Friends.
Among women, "The Rachel" hairstyle had been very popular, and there also have been a surge of parents naming their children "Emma", which is the name of Rachel's daughter in the show.
As for the show, its structure received critical acclaim and has been copied in many TV shows, that have revolved around the same formula of the life of single people in a big city.
