'Falling Skies' Season 3 Premiere: Drew Roy on Hal Mason and Alien Infiltration
Hal Mason (Drew Roy) closed out season 2 of Falling Skies with an evil, possessed smile.
As the premiere for season 3 draws ever closer, Roy discusses his characters switch to a darker, more malevolent path following his new state as a host to an eyeworm.
"Because of everything going on with Hal with the bug going in his ear, he has some issues and some troubles," Roy said, according to The TV Addict. "He needs some help and Hal's not the kind of guy to tell anybody that."
Hal is not the first Mason to be infected by alien technology. His father Tom (Noah Wyle) briefly housed the parasite in season 2. However, Tom's ailment was short and left him debilitated more by self-doubt. Roy claims that Hal's bug's effects on Hal manifest themselves both physically and emotionally. Unfortunately Hal will not turn to anyone for help although he has his close confidant, Maggie (Sarah Carter).
"We've really come along and Hal and Maggie are more like a married couple. They live with each other," Roy told The TV Addict. "But because of what Hal and Maggie have, she is really the only one that is seeing the pain of what he is going through with these difficulties because on the outside he tries to put up this front of "Hey, I've got everything under control. It might look like it's not together, but everything's fine."
If Hal were to tell his family that he feels like something is wrong, there is no telling how other members of the 2nd Mass may react. In the past civilians and fighters alike were wary of de-harnessed children like Ben Mason (Connor Jessup) and there is a fear of aliens finding away to subvert the resistance.
"Hal's potentially dangerous, but does he want to come clean on that? And "coming clean," what does that mean?" Roy said, according to The TV Addict. "There are a lot of people not happy about that kind of stuff. There's Ben who has spikes; Tom has had the eye-bug. They're a whole family of half aliens, so does Hal really want to come out and say, "Hey, you know what? I'm feeling a little fishy too."
While Hal is currently living with Maggie, he still wonders about Karen, according to Ksite TV. Although Karen is (Jessy Schram) is being controlled by the Overlords, she still appears to have feelings for her old boyfriend.
According to the Examiner, Karen will feature in the premier and Roy claims, "It's a side of Hal and Karen we've never seen before."
Season 3 of Falling Skies premiers on Sunday at 9 p.m. on TNT.
