Bear Grylls can survive in any environment, but the host wasn't able to outlast the Discovery Channel.

The network canned the Man vs. Wild host after Grylls refused to participate in two unannounced projects while under contract, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Due to a continuing contractual dispute with Bear Grylls, Discovery has terminated all current productions with him," a network spokesperson told THR.

A rep for Grylls confirmed that Grylls was leaving the network.

The show first aired in 2006 and quickly gained a huge following in the United States. The British outdoorsman and best-selling author is a magnet for celebs -- Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Stiller and Will Ferrell have accompanied him on some of his adventures.

Man vs. Wild averaged 1.1 million viewers last season despite accusations that parts of the show were staged. In 2007, the UK's Channel 4 revealed that Grylls was actually quite comfy indoors on at least a few occasions when he was supposed to be in survival mode out in the wild.

The last season of Man vs. Wild wrapped filming last August.
