The Vampire Diaries franchise will have its hands full upon its fall return, as its set to relaunch its spinoff, The Originals.

While in attendance at the 2013 ATX Television Festival, executive producer Julie Plec spoke about what lies ahead in Season 5 of The Vampire Diaries as well as the opening installment of The Originals, according to International Business Times.

"As a TV fan, I'm always like, 'Does there have to be that college that's right next door?' We always knew that Grams was a professor who taught the occults and that Aunt Jenna was off getting her masters degree. So we set up Whitmore knowing that we'd be going to college in year five," she said.

Although Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Caroline (Candice Accola) look to be headed to college, Plec joked that it's not necessarily a guarantee they won't play hooky.

"Class is boring. We might see it once or twice."

Although no official airdate has yet to be announced, the fifth season of The Vampire Diaries is slated to begin at some point in September. Its spin-off series, The Originals, is set to start up again at some point in October. Be sure to keep checking back for more of the latest details on the vampire TV series.
