'America's Got Talent' 2013 Season 8 Recap VIDEOS: Episode 3 'Red Panda' & 5-Year-Old Cheerleader Surprise Judges
Tuesday night's third episode of America's Got Talent featured powerful singers and incredible dancers in addition to unique acts. Here are the five highlights:
The American Military Spouses Choir:
This group of women, whose husbands are currently serving in the military, managed to bring joy to the crowd and the judges through their performance of Ain't No Mountain High Enough. Though a few of the women took the lead on the song, it was mostly a choir rendition of the song, and the judges were blown away. Judge Howard Stern in particular was blown away. "Some people know how to lift the human spirit," he told them. "You did that today." They were sent through to the Vegas round.
Rong Niu a.k.a. "Red Panda":
This acrobatic act stunned the judges after successfully using a unicycle in heels and then she upped the ante by tossing bowls onto her head while still riding the unicycle. The judges gave her a standing ovation, as did the entire audience. "You are fearless," Stern said. Each judge enthusiastically sent her through to the Vegas round.
Darby, the 5-Year-Old Cheerleader
5-Year-Old Darby performed a cheerleading routine with her coach, flying and tumbling through the air with relative ease. Her flexibility alone when lifting a leg in the air was enough of a talent to impress the judges, especially at 5 years old. "That was great, Darby!" judge Howie Mandel said, "Was that fun?" Darby smiled bashfully and said "Yes," as did the four judges, sending her through to Vegas.
Kenichi Ebina:
Ebina's self-described "dance-ish" performance involved moving his body robotically to the music and launched into reinacting the bullet-dodging scene from The Matrix. Judge Heidi Klum was stunned, saying, "You have a control over your body that is unbelievable." Mandel had even more high praise: "That's the best dance I've seen in Chicago, the best dance I've seen in a long time." Ebina was sent through to the Vegas round.
Deanna Dellacioppa:
This red-haired belter tore into the song And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going from the musical Dreamgirls. In the pre-performance clip she discussed being rejected by music executives for her weight, but she proved on the stage why she deserved to be discovered. Judge Mel B said she was worried Dellacioppa was going to "snap" her voice but was still interested to see what she would do next. She was sent through to Vegas.
The fourth episode is scheduled for a two-hour block next Tuesday at 9 p.m. on NBC.
