Minority House Leader Nancy Pelosi To Guest-Judge On ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars’ Season 3
Nancy Pelosi, Minority Leader of the House, will appear as a guest judge on the next season of VH1's RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars.
On Thursday, Jan. 18, VH1 announced Pelosi as one of the guest judges who will join the main panel consisting of Michelle Visage, Carson Kressley, and Ross Mathews on season 3 of the show, which premiere next week.
The California Congresswoman will bring her expertise to the upcoming season of the reality competition television series and will mark the first time that a political figure appears on the show.
Pelosi, who made history by becoming the first woman Speaker of the House, also took to social media to share the news with her 1.4 million followers.
Nancy Pelosi As Guest Judge
While Pelosi's selection might have taken many by surprise, Randy Barbato, executive producer of RuPaul's Drag Race, believes the 77-year-old politician is a perfect fit for the show's theme.
In a statement to CNN, Barbato described Pelosi as a "fierce servant of our nation (and) 'Drag Race's mission is to teach the children and honor those who fight on our behalf."
A rep for Pelosi stated that she accepted the offer to appear as a guest in order to show "solidarity with the LGBT community in the face of Trump attacks." Pelosi has been an advocate for LGBTQ rights for a long time and is also a big fan of RuPaul's Drag Race.
Other Celebrity Guest Judges
The other guest judges set to appear on the show include the likes of Vanessa Hudgens, Adam Lambert, Shay Mitchell, Emma Bunton, Marc Jacobs, Tituss Burgess, Chris Colfer, Constance Zimmer, Nicole Byer, Garcelle Beauvais Vanessa Williams, Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman and Todrick Hall.
The Drag Race Begins
The format of the show puts two drag queens through a series of challenges and the top two contestants battle it out in a lip-syncing competition to win the power to eliminate one of their peers and send them home.
According to the network's press release, competition on the upcoming season of the show will be "fierce" as the drag queens strategize, work hard, and compete to not only impress their Emmy-winning host RuPaul and the judging panel but also each other.
The upcoming season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars kicks off with a 90-minute episode next Thursday, Jan. 25.
