Falling Skies has added the veritable reclusive mad scientist to their cast in the form of Robert Sean Leonard's Dr. Roger Kadar.

Kagar preferred to keep to himself, staying holed up in his lab while running the Charleston power grid for the surviving humans. However, Tom Mason (Noah Wyle) dragged the academic out into the open during "Collateral Damage" in an effort to safely destroy a nuclear power plant.

However, little is known about Kagar. House's Leonard sheds some light on his new character.

"He lives underground," Leonard told Access Hollywood. "Essentially, he's given up, I think, on life. He keeps to himself, he's wickedly smart, but hypo-allergic to other people and anything above ground."

As with many of the survivors of the Espheni invasion, Kagar is emotionally damaged following the immense trauma of the previous two years. Leonard speculates that he is possibly dealing with the aftermath of losing his family.

"You may never find out what happened," Leonard said, according to Access Hollywood. "I believe that something traumatic happened and he's done. He's just done."

Both fortunately and unfortunately, Tom has entered Kagar's life. While sticking close to Tom and the rest of the 2nd Mass. can mean a chance of survival, the former professor has a habit of pushing other characters into highly dangerous situations.

"He cares about Noah's character and he wants to help, but I honestly think he's done. I think he likes his puzzles and living in his head, and if solving puzzles helps Noah and the people that he's working with, that's good," Leonard told Access Hollywood. "Obviously, Noah's character slowly drags him a little more into the sun and into being with other people."

Since the death of Uncle Scott (Bruce Gray) in between seasons 1 and 2, Falling Skies has been without an intrepid researcher and scientific investigator. Hopefully Kagar will be able to fill that gap and provide the 2nd Mass. with new insights into their alien overlords.
