Raising a new baby while embattled in a fight for the survival of the human race is difficult enough, but things become a whole lot more complicated when that baby has alien DNA.

Falling Skies' Tom Mason (Noah Wyle) and Anne (Moon Bloodgood) were excited but nervous when baby Alexi arrived at the beginning of Season 3. However, as Anne notices her child's odd developments, she becomes increasingly worried while other characters write her reaction off as postpartum depression.

"There were little moments, subtle moments...where Anne would be wrestling with, 'Is this in my head? Why is no one believing me?'" Bloodgood said on EW's 2nd Watch.

In Sunday's episode "At All Costs," Anne gets the proof she needs when she tests Alexi's DNA and finds a strand of alien DNA.

"At that point when she drugs Lourdes (Seychelle Gabriel) or she hits Dr. Kadar (Robert Sean Leonard), she goes into a moment where [she knows] the baby's got to survive, she's got to survive, its not in her head," Bloodgood told 2nd Watch of her character's flight/Skitter abduction from Charleston.

The 2nd Mass. has a proven track record when it comes to suspicion and persecution of anyone, such as de-harnessed children, who have been tainted by the aliens. Executive Producer Greg Beeman claims this is a reason for Anne's departure.

"Once she had that phone call from Tom saying that he wasn't coming back any time soon, I think she felt like she wasn't protected, that the 2nd Mass. wasn't going to accept this baby, that the news was going to get out that there was alien DNA in the baby," Beeman told EW.

While Anne's on-screen disappearance is related to covering up her off-screen pregnancy, viewers will be kept on edge as they wait to see what the Skitters and Espheni will do with the young child.
